Our work on the inclusion of marine biodiversity in fisheries is now published

Today we consume more fish than ocean can provide. With no less than 31% of the world’s fish stocks considered overfished, it is time to act! And to act, we need to measure.
For 3 years, we have been working on assessing impacts of overfishing on marine biodiversity. leading to a new scientific publication: “Sustainable fisheries: Towards operationalization of decision-making accounting for biodiversity”.
We have calculated impacts of fishing on marine biodiversity for a total of 125 species in different marine areas, called ecozones.
We propose a decision tree that can be used for implementation of public policies (preservation and protection of species) including implementation of protection measures (fishing quotas…).
It can also be used by companies for eco-design of products from fisheries and aquaculture.
It is hence now possible to eco-design your products based on classic LCA indicators but also by considering biodiversity impacts linked to the exploitation of sea stocks.
