#4 Agri-food, cosmetics or textiles: build datasets specific to my business, industry or sector

objectifs-3

OBJECTIVES

LCA data need to be constantly updated and enriched. In the agri-food sector, for example, Sayari is involved in ADEME’s Agribalyse database. We have also contributed to updating data for the paper/cardboard industry (FEFCO). We propose to complete the databases with missing data sets, for an agricultural or industrial sector.

This approach provides stakeholders with reliable data to build relevant indicators for reducing environmental impacts.

Sayari collects Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data, respecting the confidentiality of data producers.
The firm aims for maximum efficiency by prioritizing hot spots in the value chain. Particular attention is paid to the key environmental impacts of the sector concerned, and to the quality of the data collected, with a quality score considered.

We pay the utmost attention to the confidentiality of the elementary data provided, which is then combined into an average dataset, in which individual contributions are not accessible.

LEARN MORE

There are 5 steps to collecting data for a specific sector.

#1 Confidentiality agreement
This is the first key step. The data we work with is sensitive, as it concerns industrial know-how. We position ourselves as a trusted third party. We store the data on a protected server and identify which members of our team have access to it. This is the point at which the work begins and forms the basis of mutual trust.

#2 Contributor questionnaire: keeping it simple without being simplistic
This is where our expertise lies. To design the questionnaire that will be sent to each manufacturer, we consider the industry’s priority issues.

#3 Feedback from contributors
Responses from manufacturers are analyzed as they arrive. We check for consistency, quality, and get back to each contributor if necessary.

#4 Data compilation
Once we’ve received all the responses, we anonymize them, and calculate an “industry” average, as well as an overall indicator of the quality of this average, following the internationally recommended method and the latest scientific developments.

#5 Summary reports
This report contains anonymized average data only. Subject to the agreement of the industry and its members, they may be published in life-cycle inventory databases.

We also produce a confidential report for each contributor, comparing their data with the average, with recommendations for improvement.
